A striking new film made by Impermanence Dance Theatre. It takes its title and inspiration from The Ballet of the Nations (1915), a pacifist allegory by Vernon Lee (alias Violet Paget). Lee’s original text was published with a ‘Pictorial Commentary’ by Maxwell Armfield. It evokes the political and theatrical culture of the early twentieth century while raising still current and urgent questions about war and its relation to art. Carolyn Burdett (Birkbeck) chairs a panel discussion following the film.
