This seminar explores power and violence in the seventeenth-century household. Speakers analyse drama, prose and law as fathers asserted authority, mistress punished apprentices. Speakers: Sarah Birt (Birkbeck), Rachel Holmes (UCL), Laura Seymour (Birkbeck), Iman Sheeha (Brunel) and Emma Whipday (Newcastle). Organised by Rebecca Tomlin (Society of Antiquaries) and the London Renaissance Seminar. Followed immediately by Eleanor Warr's play Cry Up Liberty! as part two.
