Feminist Flashpoints: #timesup, #metoo and sexual harassment

Following from the Feminist Emergency Conference of June 2017, this event continues our series of Feminist Flashpoints in which we seek to create the space for dialogue around some of the most searching and difficult issues facing feminism today.

In this discussion, Katherine Angel, Caroline Edwards and Jacqueline Rose, each of whom have addressed the question of harassment in their research and writing, will discuss the issues raised by the recent furore over sexual harassment: how best to continue the activism it has stimulated, what vision of sexual behaviour and sexual desire advances our understanding, what questions harassment poses for university life and policy.

Katherine Angel is the author of Unmastered: A Book on Desire, Most Difficult To Tell (Penguin, 2012; Farrar Straus & Giroux 2013), and teaches creative and critical writing at Birkbeck.

Caroline Edwards is Senior Lecturer in Modern & Contemporary Literature at Birkbeck, and teaches the utopian imagination in literature, popular culture and Marxism. She is the author of Fictions of the Not Yet: Utopian Times in the 21st Century British Novel (forthcoming).

Jacqueline Rose is the Co-Director of the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities. Her article on sexual harassment was published in The London Review of Books 40:4, 20 February 2018.
