The Department of Law is pleased to present this discussion of Angie Voela's Psychoanalysis, Philosophy and Myth in Contemporary Culture (London: Palgrave Macmillan, 2017).

The book brings together novels, plays and films and psychoanalysis in answering the question of how do we 'recognise truth when [we] come across it?. The discussion will feature the following:

Angie Voela is a senior lecturer in Psychosocial Studies at the University of East London. She has published in a number of journals and co-edited We Need to Talk About Family: Essays on Neoliberalism, the Family and Popular Culture (2016).

Maria Aristodemou is a Reader in Law, Literature and Psychoanalysis and Assistant Dean for Law at Birkbeck, University of London. She is the author of Law, Psychoanalysis, Society: Taking the Unconscious Seriously (2014) and Law & Literature: Journeys from Her to Eternity (2000) as well as numerous articles and book chapters.

Amber Jacobs is a Senior Lecturer in Psychosocial Studies at Birkbeck, University of London. She is the author of On Matricide: Myth, Psychoanalysis and the Law of the Mother (2007) and numerous articles and book chapters.

Chrysanthi Nigianni is a Lecturer in Psychosocial Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London, she is the co-editor of Undutiful Daughters: New Directions in Feminist Thought and Practice (2012), Deleuzian Politics? (2010), Deleuze and Queer Theory (2009).

Elena Loizidou is the convenor of the event.
