Gaston Kaboré has made some of the most acclaimed and awarded films in Africa: Wend Kuuni (1985), Zan Boko (1988), Rabi (1992) and Buud Yam (1997). He has been key to developments in the promotion of cinema in Africa and Burkina Faso. He was director of the National Film Center of Burkina Faso, and taught at the African Institute for Cinematographic Studies (INAFEC), 1977-1988. He was involved in setting up Inter-African distribution and production centres. He ran an independent production company Cinecom Productions, 1989-2002. He founded, and is the director of, the Imagine Institute, which runs training in film, television and multimedia. He has been an organising member of the Panafrican Festival of Cinema and Television of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) since 1978, and between 1985 to 1997 served as elective Secretary General on the Pan African Filmmakers Federation (FEPACI).
