Transitions: New Directions in Comics Studies is an annual conference promoting new research and the multi-disciplinary academic study of comics / comix / bande dessinée / manga / and other forms of sequential art. The Transitions symposia have been a fixture on the UK comics scholarship landscape, with a focus on new voices and novel approaches in comics research. The programme emphasises a range of approaches in research and especially invites participation from research students and early career researchers.
This year, we are pleased to host two international keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Sylvia Kesper-Biermann (Universität Hamburg) and Dr. Nick Sousanis (San Francisco State University).
The cfp is available here.
This year’s Transitions conference is supported with funding from CHASE and the Birkbeck Centre for Contemporary Literature.
Attendance is free, but registration is essential. As this year’s conference is hosted online details for how to attend will be circulated to registrants in advance.
Transitions is organised by Dr John Miers (Kingston University, London), Tobias Yu-Kiener (University of the Arts London) and Dr Hallvard Haug (Birkbeck, University of London, RCA)
