Nat Ogle in conversation
When:
—
Venue:
Birkbeck 43 Gordon Square
A conversation with Nat Ogle, whose debut novel, In the Seeing Hands of Others, has been described as ‘a breathtaking meditation on trauma, care and the limits of empathy.’ In-person.
Nat Ogle’s debut novel, In the Seeing Hands of Others, published in January by Serpent’s Tale, tells the story of the aftermath of a rape and subsequent trial, through documents. Using its formal provocations to reproduce the intimacy and intensity of investigation and confession, it has been described as ‘transcendent’, and ‘a breathtaking meditation on trauma, care and the limits of empathy.’ Dr Mark Blacklock, himself the author of two document-based fictions, discusses with Ogle the thinking behind his working in this form, the challenges of publication, and his work more broadly.
