Overview
This online session will provide essential mental health awareness training for doctoral supervisors at Birkbeck. The session has been developed by Birkbeck’s Counselling Services team in consultation with the Birkbeck Graduate Research School and Assistant Deans for PGR specifically to support supervisors.
Further information
The session will use a mix of slides, example case studies and discussion and you will able to raise your own questions throughout. The aim is to provide an informed and supportive forum for supervisors and by the end of the session you will have found out about:
- key aspects of mental health and the particular relevance for doctoral researchers
- mental health support available to Birkbeck students
- your responsibilities as a supervisor and the responsibilities of other staff at Birkbeck in providing mental health support for research students
- how to respond if you have concerns about a student's mental health
- key contacts if you have concerns about the mental health of a doctoral student including safeguarding.
Who is this training for?
This is essential training for any member of staff who is preparing to supervise a Birkbeck Postgraduate Research Student or who is already an appointed supervisor.
How do I attend?
Those wishing to attend should register using this form. This session will take place on MS Teams and a link will be sent to attendees ahead of the session taking place.
Session lead
The session will be led by Aura Rico (Counselling Service Manager) and Lamiyah Cameron (Mental Health Advisor) from the Birkbeck Wellbeing Services.
