Workshop exploring the recent explosion in Generative Artificial Intelligence and its potential impact on museums.
Join us for a workshop exploring the recent explosion in Generative Artificial Intelligence and its potential impact on museums. Generative AI can produce unique and detailed images based on written descriptions, opening up new possibilities for engaging with museum collections. During this workshop you’ll learn about the basics of Generative AI models, while discussing some of the controversies surrounding this technology. You’ll have an opportunity to experiment with some of the most powerful AI image tools like DALL-E and Stable Diffusion. You’ll also be introduced to a Birkbeck project called The Design Generator, a generative AI model trained on the V&A Museum’s collection of design objects.
Dr. Joel McKim is Senior Lecturer in Digital Media and Culture and the Director of the Vasari Research Centre for Art and Technology at Birkbeck. Joel was a visiting fellow at the V&A Research Institute and the Principal Investigator on the Design Generator project.
Dr. Alessandro Provetti is Reader in Data Analysis and the Director of the Birkbeck Institute for Data Analytics. Alessandro is an expert in experimental algorithmics and was Co-Investigator on the Design Generator project.
