Implementing Climate Justice: Local and Global Solidarity within and Beyond Higher Education
When:
—
Venue:
Birkbeck Main Building, Malet Street
A closer look at climate justice: frontline solidarity and the role Birkbeck organisers can play within the global movement.
Indigenous and frontline communities around the world and in the UK have been demanding 'climate justice' for decades. But even as recently as Cop28 the spaces that should be centring this core principle are being called out for continuing with ‘business as usual’ - business based on inequity and a refusal by the big polluters to take responsibility. But where does ‘justice’ fit into the conversation about ‘climate change’? And why does it matter? Join us to explore all of this - and how you can take action as part of the Birkbeck community in pursuit of climate justice.
This workshop is offered by People and Planet's Laura Clayson (Campaigns Manager - Climate Justice) and Kayleigh Woods Harley (Project Manager, Birkbeck and organiser of Birkbeck's Climate Action Network). It is linked to 'Will You Breathe? A Climate Justice Writing Workshop' that runs earlier in the week.
This event is running as part of the Birkbeck Climate Festival: The Sustainable Now. See the full programme of events here.
