Athena SWAN awards in the Faculty of Science
Advance HE's Athena SWAN Charter was established in 2005 to recognise and celebrate good employment practice for women working in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) in higher education and research. From 2015 the charter was extended to recognise the commitment to gender equality more broadly for staff in academic, professional support roles and for trans staff and students.
Birkbeck, University of London, has held an Athena SWAN Bronze Award since 2012 and three of the Faculty of Science's subject areas have been recognised with awards in recognition of our active support for the initiative which encourages and recognises the advancement of women within STEM subjects:
- Biological Sciences, Silver Award since October 2018
- Computer Sciences, Bronze Award since April 2018
- Psychological Sciences, Bronze Award since April 2016.
