ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores, however we accept many other tests and qualifications.

Undergraduate entry requirements
Applicants from Ethiopia will normally require a Foundation course for entry onto undergraduate programmes at the university. These offer the opportunity for guaranteed progression onto Birkbeck’s Bachelor programmes.
Applicants who have completed one or two years of university in Ethiopia can be considered for direct entry onto an undergraduate degree.
Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-levels will be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. IB requirements range from 28 to 30, depending on the course
Postgraduate entry requirements
To be considered for entry onto a Master’s degree at Birkbeck, a student from Ethiopia must have completed a Master’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0/Grade B from a recognised Ethiopian institution. Students applying for postgraduate courses requiring a UK 2:1 degree will need a Master’s degree with at least 3.5 out of 4.0 from a recognised university.
If you do not meet these criteria, you can apply for OnCampus' Master's Foundation programme, which is available for two- or three-term progression onto a wide range of Master’s degrees at Birkbeck.
Research degrees entry requirements
For entry onto our research degree courses, students should normally have a Master’s degree from a UK university or a recognised university in Ethiopia.
Applicants are strongly urged to contact potential supervisors within the department before submitting a research application.
