Entry Information for students from Pakistan
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
- The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores, however we accept many other tests and qualifications.

Undergraduate Entry Requirements
- Applicants from Pakistan can be accepted for direct entry onto undergraduate programmes at Birkbeck with the following qualifications:
- Intermediate Certificate/Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) - Pre-Medical or Pre-Engineering Stream with a minimum final grade of 80%. At the discretion of the department (science only): this qualification is considered equivalent to AS-level.
- Two-year Bachelor of Arts/Science/Commerce/Technology (Pass) from an HEC-accredited institution with a minimum final. Science degrees are usually considered to be of a higher standard and students from top universities with slightly lower grades may be considered at the discretion of the department (grade of at least 60%/First-Class/B or a GPA of 3.0/4.0).
- Three-year Bachelor of Arts/Science/Commerce (Honours) from an HEC-accredited institution with a minimum final grade of at least 60%/First-Class/B or a GPA of 3.0/4.0 (may be considered for second-year entry at the discretion of the department).
- Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-levels will be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. IB requirements range from 28 to 33, depending on the course.
- Applicants from Pakistan with other qualifications may require a Foundation course for entry onto undergraduate programmes at Birkbeck. These offer the opportunity for guaranteed progression onto Birkbeck’s Bachelor programmes.
Postgraduate Entry Requirements
- Applicants from Pakistan would need to have completed:
- Four-year Bachelor's (Honours) degree/professional degree from an HEC-accredited institution; science degrees are usually considered to be of a higher standard and students from top universities with slightly lower grades may be considered at the discretion of the department.For programmes requiring a UK 2:1: first-class degree/at least 60%/B/a GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 or equivalent
- For programmes requiring a UK 2:2: good second-class degree/at least 55%/B-/a GPA of at least 2.7/4.0 or equivalent.
- Master’s degree (two years following a two-year Bachelor's degree or one year following a three-year Bachelor's degree) from an HEC-accredited institution; science degrees are usually considered to be of a higher standard and students from top universities with slightly lower grades may be considered at the discretion of the department.For programmes requiring a UK 2:1: first-class degree/at least 60%/B/a GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 or equivalent
- For programmes requiring a UK 2:2: good second-class degree/at least 55%/B-/a GPA of at least 2.7/4.0 or equivalent.
- If you do not meet these criteria, you can apply for OnCampus' Master's Foundation programme, which is available for 2- or 3-term progression onto a wide range of Master’s degrees at Birkbeck.
Research degrees Entry Requirements
- The usual entrance requirement for a research degree is a Master’s degree (following a four-year Bachelor’s degree) from an HEC-accredited institution with exceptional grades OR a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) with at least 60%/B/3.0/4.0 GPA.
- Applicants are strongly urged to contact potential supervisors within the school before submitting a research application.
