Forced migrants
At Birkbeck, we believe everyone has a right to education and welcome applications from students of all backgrounds. Some students may encounter certain difficulties when applying to study if they are a forced migrant (a refugee, asylum seeker or someone who has humanitarian protection).
We offer support to those who have sought sanctuary in the UK through The Compass Project, which aims to give forced migrants the chance to find out more about studying at Birkbeck and the financial support to apply to start a course with us.
Documents required
As a Student visa sponsor, we have a legal responsibility to ensure that everyone registered to study with us has the correct immigration permission to do so. Unfortunately, we are unable to consider applications to study from students where their current immigration status is unclear, or who do not currently hold an immigration status which allows study.
To ensure transparency, please view the documents we require you to provide to demonstrate your eligibility to study here. If you have any questions or are unable to provide any of the documentation, please contact The Compass Project to discuss further.
