Student visa responsibilities
The Student visa is issued for study in the UK. In order to maintain your visa rights and protect your student status, you must comply with the terms and conditions of your visa. As your Student visa sponsor, Birkbeck also requires you to comply with a number of requirements outlined by the Home Office. Our guidance on the responsibilities of Student visa sponsor and students is provided as part of your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) and Student visa registration. You should familiarise yourself with the Student visa responsibilities.
Not complying with the conditions could have serious consequences for your current Student visa and any future immigration applications you may make.
You should also be aware of the terms and conditions of your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
Student Visa conditions
Study
You can only study the programme of study stated on your CAS at Birkbeck, University of London. Changes to your programme of study must satisfy all Student visa conditions outlined by the immigration rules. Therefore, any change request must be approved by both your school and ISA before any change can be made.
Every time you enter or re-enter the UK, you must intend to study and attend in-person at Birkbeck, University of London.
You must complete the enrolment and registration by the set deadline. If you fail to complete the enrolment and registration by the set deadline, or if you decide to discontinue with your studies, Birkbeck must report this to the Home Office and withdraw the visa sponsorship.
Work
As a Student visa holder, you are permitted to work - paid or unpaid - for a limited number of hours per week during term time, depending on your level of study.
If your programme of study includes a work placement module, you can undertake a work placement.
