Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships in History, Classics and Archaeology
We are very pleased to announce that Birkbeck will be supporting a number of applications for Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships in the coming year. An outstanding centre fo research excellence, the Department of History Classics and Archaeology has a strong track record of supporting successful applications for this scheme, with three fellows currently appointed. Staff are happy to serve as mentors for a wide range of projects in history, classics or archaeology, with departmental research expertise ranging from prehistory to the present.
Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships and a range of other early career opportunities at Birkbeck aim to provide career development opportunities for those who are at a relatively early stage of their academic careers, but who have a proven record of research.
How to apply
Eligible applicants will need to identify a mentor prior to submitting their application. Applicants should discuss their applications with the mentor ideally by 1 December 2018. Applications submitted without the support of a mentor will not be considered.
Applicants will need to complete a short proforma (available here) describing their research and submit it to rescomp@bbk.ac.uk by 5 January 2019. This will allow the selection of the best candidates as assessed on the basis of research excellence: the scholarly importance of their project, the ability of the applicant to carry out the research successfully, the feasibility of the proposed research programme, especially the proposed methodology and timescale, and the applicant’s publication record to date.
All applicants must be able to demonstrate that they are eligible to apply for the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship.
Before writing their applications, applicants are asked to carefully check the guidance to applicants on the Leverhulme website.
All applicants must complete a proforma and submit it, along with a CV, by email by 5 January 2019.
All applicants will receive feedback by 30 January 2019 at the latest.
Selected applicants will be supported by a mentor, who will work with them on their application to the Leverhulme Trust. The deadline for this is 28 February 2019.
