Birkbeck lecturer, Andrew McKinnon, will direct the award-winning Theatre North production of Billy Budd Sailor as part of the Glasgay! Festival, November 1-4 2011.

Andrew McKinnon, programme director of the MA Creative Producing for Theatre, will direct the award-winning Theatre North production of Billy Budd Sailor as part of the Glasgay! Festival, November 1-4 2011. The play is written by Martin Lewton, from Herman Melville's original and is also performed by Lewton.

Mutiny, murder and male desire in a tale of shipboard obsession and revenge by Herman Melville, author of Moby Dick, told from a bathroom in the Brunswick Hotel, Glasgow.  As a modern gay man tells Billy Budd's story, an ever closer connection uncannily develops between them......

In May 2011 this acclaimed Theatre North production of BILLY BUDD SAILOR took the Brighton Festival by storm.  It was very highly praised by press and audiences alike; and it won the top annual award – ‘Star of the Festival’
