Arts Weeks 2020

This year, Birkbeck’s Arts festival has gone completely virtual and will run from 18 May to 19 June. Highlights include a Birkbeck academic in conversation with author Deborah Levy and live performances from Louise Wilcox and Shabnam Shabazi.

Arts Weeks 2020 launches this week with a special offering in line with the current need to social distance. This year’s virtual programme starts on 18 May and will run for five weeks, incorporating an exciting mix of interviews, performances and podcasts.

Despite the change of location, this year’s festival pushes the boundaries, exploring different perspectives on arts and culture across the world that represent the work of Birkbeck’s School of Arts. All of the events are free to join and you can receive weekly updates on the selection of offerings available by joining the Arts Week mailing list.

Professor Sue Wiseman, Professor of Seventeenth Century Literature and an organiser of Arts Weeks, said: “We are really excited about the mix of readings, films, written texts, podcasts, activities and performances that our colleagues have contributed. There are regular series that will happen every week, special features, and various live events. We are dying to tell you everything we have on offer, but our team insists that each must be kept a mystery before it goes live on Monday. All we advise is sign up.”

Professor Anthony Bale, Dean of the School of Arts, commented: “This year, we moved Arts Weeks online, offering you a thrilling range of events, from local to global. During this uniquely challenging time, by transforming Arts Weeks into an online series of events, we can bring you a wider range of activities.
