Autumn telephone campaign raises nearly £90,000 for Birkbeck students and facilities

The funds generously donated by alumni will go towards providing financial assistance to struggling students and to support Birkbeck’s mission in providing the very best facilities, support and career guidance to current and future students.

Birkbeck’s autumn telephone fundraising campaign has come to an end after five weeks. The team of dedicated student fundraisers spoke to over 1,200 of the College's alumni who pledged a total of £89,125.

Two fifths of Birkbeck students require financial assistance at some point in their studies and alumni donations can sometimes be the difference in whether a struggling student can continue with their course or not. The £89,125 raised will go towards providing financial assistance to these students, as well as towards the wider student experience, supporting Birkbeck’s mission to provide the very best facilities, support and career guidance to both current and future students.

Tara Millington, Regular Giving Officer at Birkbeck said: “I am delighted with the campaign total. Many alumni spoken to have also offered their support through mentoring and volunteering – the campaign has highlighted the true generosity of Birkbeck alumni.”

Telephone campaigns allow Birkbeck to stay connected with alumni and update them with upcoming opportunities, as well as enabling alumni to share their experiences and advice with current students.

Melissa, a returning caller to the autumn telephone campaign said: “I have received lots of advice from alumni, but the best was to ultimately believe in myself and what I want to achieve in life because I am the owner of my destiny. Hearing alumni stories about self-motivation and commitment has been inspirational.”
