Telephone campaigns are an important way for us to stay in touch with our valued community of Birkbeck alumni, supporters and friends.

During the calling campaign, our callers phone Birkbeck alumni to hear about how they're succeeding in their careers, to update them about latest university developments and share exclusive benefits and opportunities.

The campaign is also a vital part of our fundraising for the Birkbeck Fund, which ensures we can support Birkbeck students from all walks of life by helping them to successful start and complete their studies.

Hear from some of our telephone callers about what being a Birkbeck student means to them:

Liz Yuen, who is studying Cert HE Counselling and Counselling Skills part-time, said: “I was really lost and frustrated about where to go next in my career. Birkbeck opened that door for me and offered me hope in how to pursue my studies for a professional career change into psychotherapy.

“The people in my cohort are all really supportive, the classes are amazing and it’s wonderful to mix with people from all walks of life.”

Thato Mabe, who is studying MSc Public Policy and Management, said: “I wanted to work and study at the same time to meet my financial needs so Birkbeck was perfect for me and my schedule.

“I firstly came to Birkbeck because of an amazing professor in my department, plus you get a degree from the University of London – it’s very prestigious.

“What is great is that the people you study with have the same goals as you. You are all trying to get further somehow.”

Missy Isaackson, who is studying BSc Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship with Foundation Year, said: “Birkbeck means a lot to me as it’s been a big part of my childhood. My mum put me into the childcare here while she was studying for her law degree part-time. Birkbeck made it possible for her to continue her education.

“Birkbeck provides unique courses that are tailored to people’s passions. I really want to be an entrepreneur.

“Birkbeck is a nice little community. It’s really inclusive and supports people from all walks of life. Everyone I have met has been so kind and welcoming.”

Stephen Okere Bundou, who is studying BSc Data Science and Computing, said: “For me, being a Birkbeck student is like being part of a family. It’s a refreshing feeling to walk though those doors and feel like you belong.

“I feel like I am a person who is valued here. Teachers take the time to ask me questions and ask about how they can support me. They want to get to know me as a person.”
