Birkbeck among top 100 worldwide in QS subject rankings

College ranked among top 100 universities worldwide in three subject categories

Birkbeck is among the world’s elite institutions in nine of the subjects featured in the latest QS worldwide ranking of universities by subject areas.

The College is ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide in three subject categories - English Literature, History and Philosophy - according to the 2016 QS World University Rankings by Subject, published today.

Birkbeck is also ranked in the top 150 universities worldwide for both Law and Psychology, and in the top 200 for Linguistics and Geography.

New rankings for the College this year are Modern Languages and Education, for which Birkbeck is placed among the top 300 and top 250 respectively.

Published annually since 2011, the 2016 QS World University Rankings highlight the world’s top universities in 42 subject areas. This year QS evaluated more than 4,200 universities, ranking 945 in total. The rankings are based on analysis of more than 113 million citations attributions from Elsevier’s Scopus database, as well as reputational surveys of academics and graduate employers worldwide.

These latest QS subject rankings follow on from Birkbeck’s strong showing in the 2015 QS World Rankings league table, which placed Birkbeck within the top 10 of London’s best universities, and the UK’s top 40 institutions.
