Birkbeck in global top 100 in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017
Birkbeck, University of London, has been rated within the world’s top 100 institutions for English and Philosophy in the 2017 QS World University Rankings by Subject, published today [8 March 2017].
Birkbeck is also ranked in the top 150 universities worldwide for History, Psychology and Law; within the top 200 for Sociology, Communications and Media Studies and Geography; and within the top 400 for Economics by QS, which grades over 1100 universities worldwide across 46 different subject areas.
The new QS leagues tables show a strong result for the College on a national level, with subjects ranking in the top 25 nationally including Law, Philosophy, Linguistics, History, Psychology and English Language and Literature.
The Ranking is based on datasets compiled by QS, including academic and employer reputation surveys and Scopus data used to evaluate research citations per Faculty. All three are combined to produce the results.
Commenting on Birkbeck’s performance, Professor David Latchman CBE, Master of Birkbeck, said:
“The announcement that Birkbeck is among the world’s elite universities in the latest QS World University Rankings reinforces the consistently strong reputation of research across a broad spectrum of subjects at Birkbeck.
“It is particularly pleasing to see that these rankings take into account institutional reputation among employers. We know that the enthusiasm and dedication displayed by Birkbeck students is highly valued by employers; and we continue to innovate to ensure that students leave Birkbeck with both the academic knowledge and the skills needed to flourish in whichever career they wish to pursue.”
