Birkbeck, University of London has been ranked 201-300 in this year’s Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings, representing a steady increase since 2023 when the last ranking was published.

The prestigious ranking is decided based on the judgement of senior academics in the world’s largest invitation-only academic opinion survey. Reputation is assessed based on three core pillars of evaluation: vote counts, pairwise comparison and voter diversity, with all three considered in relation to research and teaching.

This year’s survey received responses from more than 55,000 academics and the methodology for devising the ranking was updated to increase the number of methods used in assessing the reputation of academic institutions.

Professor Sally Wheeler, Vice-Chancellor said, “We are delighted to be listed among the most prestigious universities globally in such an influential resource as the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings. It represents a significant achievement for Birkbeck and is testament to the continuous focus of our colleagues to remain at the cutting edge of education and to conduct world-leading research. To see our strong position in the rankings reflects the impact that Birkbeck has around the world.”

The Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings employ the world’s largest invitation-only academic opinion survey to provide the definitive list of the top 300 most powerful global university brands, based on the judgement of senior academics – the people best placed to know the most about excellence in universities.
