Birkbeck is offering scholarships for MSc Data Science and the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Data Science, a one-year intensive course designed for graduates who are completely new to computer science.

The scholarships, which are each worth £10,000, are available for candidates who are typically underrepresented in computer science programmes (view the eligibility criteria). They are funded by an Office for Students grant that includes full fee payment and support for living and study costs.

The programmesare designed for professionals who are looking to improve their digital skills or change career, and requires no prior knowledge of data science. Students will acquire an understanding of basic programming, data science and engineering alongside analytical and problem-solving skills that will support them in their daily work.

The courses have been designed with the flexibility to support students from a range of professional fields, such as finance, teaching or law.

Professor George Roussos, Head of Computer Science and Information Systems, said: "I am delighted to be able to offer these scholarships to encourage more people to consider a career in data science. At a time when many people are facing uncertainty in their working lives due to the pace of technological development and integration, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills and receive the financial support to do so."

All scholarship applications will be evaluated and reviewed by an internal panel who will decide on the allocation of the scholarships and inform candidates if successful. To apply, please submit your application via the Birkbeck website.
