Birkbeck profiled in the Complete University Guide

2017 Guide highlights the flexibility of the nearly 80 undergraduate degrees offered by the College

Birkbeck has been profiled in the latest version of the Complete University Guide.

The 2017 Guide highlights the flexibility of the nearly 80 undergraduate degrees offered by Birkbeck, noting that nearly all its three-year evening-taught undergraduate degrees are also available for four-year, part-time evening study and some for six-year evening study. The College also offers more than 200 postgraduate taught and research programmes and some 40 University of London Certificates of Higher Education, all taught in the evenings.

Birkbeck’s profile also recognises the College’s teaching strengths, its consistently high standing in the National Student Survey, and its world-class research shown in the 2014 REF.

In a new table this year, the CUG highlights universities’ success in resolving student complaints. Out of a total of 137 institutions, Birkbeck is among the top 18 universities nationally to have fewer than one unresolved complaint per 1,000 students.

Birkbeck does not appear in the CUG’s overall rankingof universities because – as a relative newcomer to UCAS – the number of full-time undergraduate students studying these courses at the College is not yet high enough to provide a useful guide to each subject area.

This year’s Complete University Guide follows the recent publication of the QS worldwide ranking of universities by subject areas, which ranked Birkbeck among the world’s elite institutions in nine subjects. The College was ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide in English Literature, History and Philosophy, and among the top 150 worldwide for both Law and Psychology. Linguistics and Geography were ranked in the top 200.
