Birkbeck Psychologists recognised with prestigious awards
Major awards for academics in the Department of Psychological Sciences.
Two academics from Birkbeck’s Department of Psychological Sciences have received major awards.
Professor Martin Eimer, whose research looks at the condition of face blindness, has been awarded the 2014 Experimental Psychology Society (EPS) Mid-Career Award which recognises an experimental psychologist who has a distinguished research record over a substantial period.
Dr Matt Longo, who researches mental representation of our body and how this shapes perception, has been awarded the 2014 Experimental Psychology Society Prize Lecture which aims to recognise distinguished research achievement by an experimental psychologist at an early stage in their career.
In addition to the EPS award, Dr Matt Longo has also been selected as a recipient of the 2013 American Psychological Association (APA) Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology in the area of perception and motor performance.
This means that Dr Longo has now won two of the major early career awards on both sides of the Atlantic.
Professor Mike Oaksford, Head of the Department of Psychological Sciences, said: “I am delighted that the excellent research being carried out in the department by both Professor Eimer and Dr Longo has been recognised by these three awards. These are superb achievements and many congratulations to both Martin and Matt.”
