Dr Kate McLoughlin, Senior Lecturer in English Literature, has had her book Authoring War: The Literary Representation of War from the Iliad to Iraq selected by Choice as an Outstanding Academic Title for 2012-13.

Authoring War, which was published in January 2011 by Cambridge University Press, is a study of war writing across literary genres from earliest times to the present day.

Each year Choice editors single out for recognition works reviewed in the magazine over the previous year. The list of outstanding titles is selective – representing just ten percent of some 7000 works featured.

In publishing the Outstanding Academic Titles feature, Choice “acknowledges and honors the authors, editors, and publishers of these works for their vital contribution to the scholarly endeavor."

Kate McLoughlin teaches on the BA English and MA Modern and Contemporary Literature programmes. She is also a poet – her collection of poems Plums was published by Flipped Eye in 2011.
