The Light Between the Oceans, published by Scribner, tells the story of a lighthouse keeper and his wife who live on a remote island in Australia. They take in a baby, washed up alive in a boat, which has consequences when they discover the baby’s mother is still alive.
It has been selected as a Richard and Judy summer bookclub read 2013, Goodreads category winner, and longlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction 2013. It was described in the Guardian as "An extraordinary book... as inevitable as Hardy at his most doom-laden. And as unforgettable"
