Critical Work? Postgraduate Credited Placements in the Arts 2013-14
Dr Sophie Hope and Dr Lorraine Lim are currently working on a funded research project about credited work placements on postgraduate arts courses in London.
Dr Sophie Hope and Dr Lorraine Lim are currently working on a funded research project about credited work placements on postgraduate arts courses in London. The first part of this project involves mapping the current literature and best practice guidelines on work placements and employability within higher education. This document, 'Critical Work? Postgraduate Credited Placement in the Arts', aims to provide a starting point for a conversation with higher education placement tutors, postgraduate students and host arts organisations. The second phase involves a closer look at five case studies involving a one-day workshop with a selected group of students, placement tutors and representatives from host organisations. During this meeting, we hope to be able to allow for a frank discussion of experiences of work placements from different perspectives to discuss the provision of placements as part of postgraduate study in the arts. Through this reflection and discussion on existing guidelines and experiences of organising, carrying out and hosting placements, we aim to work towards an ethical contract to be published in 2014.
If having read the document you would like to find out more about the research, or share your insights into placement practices, please do get in touch: s.hope@bbk.ac.uk or l.lim@bbk.ac.uk
Critical Work? Postgraduate Credited Placements in the Arts is funded by a British Academy Small Grant.
