Department of Management gains prestigious CFA UK Investment Management Certificate ADVANTAGE PARTNE

Birkbeck, University of London (through its Department of Management) has become the latest (7th) institution to gain the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) UK’s Investment Management Certificate (IMC) Advantage Partner status. The agreement, signed 12th December 2013  by Professor Kevin Ibeh, Assistant Dean for Management at Birkbeck and Mr Will Goodhart, Chief Executive of the CFA Society of the UK, gives Birkbeck students studying the BSc Accounting with Finance and BSc Accounting and Management with Finance an accelerated route to obtaining the IMC designation, which is the most widely-recognised qualification of its kind in the UK. The IMC has been used by investment professionals for over 15 years, and is taken by staff in leading investment firms in the UK and overseas. The IMC is the industry's benchmark entry-level qualification and CFA UK is the awarding body for the Investment Management Certificate (IMC).

Being a CFA UK IMC Advantage Partner signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that the curricula for Birkbeck's BSc programmes in Accounting with Finance and in Accounting and Management with Finance are closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit IMC examinations.   Participation in this program also avails the Department of Management, Birkbeck University of London,of two student scholarships for the IMC Programme annually. IMC examinations take place several times throughout the year and scholarship applications can be submitted to the Department of Management at any time.

IMC candidates come from a broad range of backgrounds with equally broad aspirations. It is generally considered appropriate for anyone entering an investment-related role. Roles will include investment management, investment support, sales and marketing, investment administration. The IMC provides the ideal foundation for those with future plans for the CFA Program®. IMC candidates cover some 30% of the CFA Level I curriculum. From induction to Masters-level, the IMC-CFA route provides a globally-recognised career progression path for investment professionals and their employers.
