Discover new topics and passions at Birkbeck’s Pop-Up University in east London

Exciting talks and workshops – from learning about politics to trying out yoga – are taking place in June and July

A range of exciting talks and workshops – from learning about politics to trying out yoga  – is taking place at Birkbeck’s Pop-Up University in east London.

The three-week programme of free events at Leytonstone Library is organised by Birkbeck in partnership with Waltham Forest Council.

From 23 June to 10 July, the Pop-Up University will give local residents an opportunity to explore new topics, discover new passions, debate big ideas and find out about undergraduate and postgraduate study at Birkbeck – London’s evening university.

Staff will be on hand to provide information about studying at Birkbeck’s campuses in east London at University Square Stratford – a £33m collaboration between Birkbeck and the University of East London – and in central London at Birkbeck’s main campus in Bloomsbury.

Activities at the Pop-Up University at Leytonstone Library belong to one of the three week-long themes: employment and enterprise, women, and get creative.

Building on success

The activities at Leytonstone Library, Church Lane, Leytonstone, build on the success of Birkbeck’s first Pop-Up University, which attracted 260 people to a similar programme of 50 activities in a shop in Willesden Green (pictured, right) from March to May.

Annette McCone, Widening Access Manager at Birkbeck, is organising the Pop-Up University. She said: “Following the popularity of our sessions in Willesden Green, we are really looking forward to bringing our Pop-Up University to Leytonstone. People will get an opportunity to explore different subject areas, and also think about how a further qualification might help them to take the next step in their careers, or even change careers.  Whatever your interests, there is bound to be something for you.”

Birkbeck is London’s only specialist provider of evening higher education. All courses are taught in the evening to enable students to combine study with daytime commitments, including work and family life.

There will be free refreshments at each event.
