Eric Hobsbawm Postgraduate Scholarships
We are pleased to announce the sixth year of Eric Hobsbawm Postgraduate Scholarships, named in memory of one of the greatest historians of the last century.
Eric Hobsbawm taught at our department for most of his life and remained President of Birkbeck until his death. His work continues to inspire students and academics around the world. The scholarships have been set up to support the next generation of talented historians in pursuing original, high-quality and exciting research by assisting financially with study and research costs.
Applications are invited for two postgraduate studentships worth £5000 each to assist students who start on one of the MA programmes in the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology in 2019/20. We encourage applications from ethnic minority candidates, who are currently under-represented at the department. The scheme is open to part-time as well as full-time students. We welcome applications from UK, EU and overseas candidates.
All applicants to our MA programmes are eligible to apply, whether they already hold an offer or whether they have only recently applied. For more information, visit
