ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowships at Birkbeck in History, Classics and Archaeology

The fellowships are aimed at those in the immediately postdoctoral stage of their career, to provide the opportunity to consolidate their PhD through developing publications, their networks, and their research and professional skills.

We are members of a ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership that will be offering three postdoctoral fellowships in ‘Economic and Social History’ or ‘Archaeology and Heritage Studies’ starting in 2018. The UBEL DTP – of which Birkbeck is a partner – is now inviting applications.

The fellowships are aimed at those in the immediately postdoctoral stage of their career, to provide the opportunity to consolidate their PhD through developing publications, their networks, and their research and professional skills.

The fellowship call forms part of ESRC’s strategy to supporting early career researchers and will be delivered through the national network of Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) and Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs).

The call is open to applicants who have completed their PhD at a research organisation that is part of a DTP or CDT and who are within 12 months of having completed their PhD. At the submission deadline, the applicant must either have been awarded a PhD or have submitted their thesis and passed their viva voce with minor corrections, with the expectation that the PhD will be awarded by the fellowship start date.

Call specification, FAQs, and a form showing the required content of applications are available on the UBEL website (see the link at https://ubel-dtp.ac.uk/). All applicants must submit a completed proposal including the required attachments to the DTP (via our online portal) by 16.00 on 23 March 2018. The DTP will peer review the proposals and make funding decisions on behalf of ESRC by the end of June 2018.

The full list of DTPs and CDTs who are eligible to receive proposals and award fellowships can be found here: http://www.esrc.ac.uk/skills-and-careers/postgraduate-careers/early-career-researchers/

Applications are welcome from eligible candidates regardless of gender, ethnicity or any other personal characteristic.
