Event Report – BTEC Practitioner Group Online Meeting
Linking London held the first BTEC Practitioner Group online meeting of the academic year 2024/25 on the 19th November.

After a warm welcome from Andrew Jones, Director at Linking London, delegates heard first from Ria Bhatta, Head of Stakeholder Engagement at Pearson who gave the group a useful update on recent BTEC developments including, the summer 2024 Level 3 BTEC results looking at subject trends and regional uptake. RB also gave an update on the DfE’s ‘pause and review’ of L3 BTECs.
Following this, a partner round table then followed where attendees can share any news and updates including updates on BTEC offer for 2024-25 & HE partners outreach offer for BTEC learners. Updates included their BTEC offer and challenges in promoting awareness around T-levels.
We then heard from Noni Csogor, Research and Policy Manager at The Sixth Form Colleges Association who gave the group an update of the Protect Student Choice Campaign highlighting ongoing efforts to prevent the defunding of BTECs and other applied general qualifications (AGQs) including concerns about DfE’s rapid review and their current asks to the government.
Lastly we Linking London presented on HE Admissions Requirements for BTEC applicants looking at UCAS data and the key findings from the Linking London mapping of HE entry requirements for 2025, drawing comparisons with data from mapping for 2024 entry.
The next BTEC Practitioner Group Meeting will be in the Spring term, 14th January 2025, 10-11am.
