Event report - Access to HE Diploma Practitioner Group Meeting

The second Access to HE Diploma Practitioner Group meeting of the academic year was held online on the 12th February.

After a warm welcome from Andrew Jones, Linking London, we first heard from Marisa Castellini Head of Access to HE, OCN London presented on the latest Access and OCN London news and updates, firstly looking at Learner Demographic data trends, the new diploma specification and grade scheme which has been well received and lastly an update on revalidations and any new developments.  

We then had a roundtable partner update providing an opportunity for partners to share the latest news from our college and university partners regarding Access delivery and HE outreach activities. Partners shared information on their Access offer and upcoming events. Linking London also shared some of the new/updated resources that have produced. After a short comfort break, we heard from Colin Woolford, Careers Adviser, Kingston College who presented on how the college supports their Access learners. Firstly, outlining their Access to HE provision, which covers a range of subjects with a significant focus on science, nursing, and paramedic science. Colin also shared insights on student progression, their Careers offer and resources they provide. 

Lastly, we heard from Fred Bonful, Senior UK Recruitment and Outreach Officer, who presented on University of Westminster’s outreach efforts for Access to HE students, drawing from his own experience as a former Access learner. Fred highlighted the Study to Success programme, which provided subject workshops, academic skills sessions, and campus tours and shared the evaluation and challenges they faced.
