Event report: Access to HE Diploma Practitioner Group meeting

The first Access to HE Diploma Practitioner Group meeting of the academic year was held online on 6 October.

After a warm welcome from Andrew Jones, Linking London, delegates heard from Marisa Castellini, Head of Access to HE at OCN London who presented on the latest Access and OCN London news and developments in academic year 2021-22 so far, including the access learner data, enrolment numbers, a QAA update and new/updated diplomas in 2022-23. This was followed with some discussion in the group with college partners around summer results and enrolment numbers. College partners in the meeting saw mostly similar numbers and a rise in nursing.

We then heard from Ben Rutter, Funding Information and Account Manager, Student Loans Company, who presented an overview of Student Finance for adults, including Advanced Learner Loans, progression to HE SFE funding information, student finance eligibility, repayments and useful resources.

Following this, a roundtable partner update provided an opportunity for partners to share the latest news from our college and university partners regarding Access delivery and HE outreach activities. Partners shared information on support for access students and upcoming events.

After a short break, there was a Linking London and Uni Connect update on support for Access to HE Diploma learners, including forthcoming events and resources. Followed by group feedback on an Outline of a Resource for Staff Supporting Access Students Progress on to Higher Level Learning.

The next meeting will take place on 8 February, 2-4pm.
