The first Friday News Round of this academic year was held online on 15 September.

After a warm welcome from Andrew Jones, Director of Linking London, and Jakub Kowalewski, Partnership Officer, we started off with a short quiz on recent events in the education sector. We then updated attendees on the Linking London resources, e.g. Access to HE Diploma publications for students and staff, the upcoming LMI guide, and the Education Deprivation Dashboard.

Following from this, we summarised the response to the Augar Review. We also offered the results day headlines, as well as an overview of recent debates on apprenticeships.

We then moved on to Ofsted's T level review, and the impact on student choice of removal of BTECs. We also covered the changing profiles of HE and FE workforce, and the digital experience of students in HE and FE. We concluded with some suggestions on the likely and the less likely developments in the sector.

Feedback from attendees at our News Round events has been really positive:

  • 'Great digest of what is happening in the world of education.' University colleague
  • 'It allowed me to acquire lots of relevant information in a short time.' College colleague
  • 'Very useful overview of all the latest reports and initiatives in HE.' College colleague

The next News Round will take place on 13 October 2023.
