Event report - IAG Practitioner Group Meeting
The first IAG Practitioner Group meeting of this academic year took place on 21st September in person and was well attended by college and HEI partner representatives.
The meeting began with a presentation by Joanne Fraud & Julia Chard, Demand Team at the DfE Higher Technical Education Division who presented to the group firstly giving a background of level 4/5 qualifications, the reforms the government’s been working on and how HTQs fit into it. Helen Twomey from Amazing Apprenticeships then spoke on the HTQ draft guide for teachers and education professionals and asked the group for any feedback.
After a short comfort break, Max La Faci & Haleema Masud, Policy Advisers at UCAS presented to the group giving a UCAS update including a 2023 cycle update, key themes from results day and their journey to a million. They highlighted some of the work UCAS is doing to support with a spotlight on fair access and apprenticeships including their new Outreach Connection Service which will allow universities and colleges to showcase their opportunities to underrepresented groups to UK schools and colleges. Lastly they gave a reform update, including references, personal statements, entry grades and more.
Lastly, Caroline Tolond, Head of Careers and Employability at Arden University presented to the group on an overview of the new Career Chatbot at Arden University including its implementation, how it's used, feedback, lessons learnt and next steps.
The next meeting will take place in the Spring term, 18th January 2024, 2-4pm.
