Event Report - Linking London Friday News Round
Our monthly round up of what's been going on, as well as a look ahead to what’s coming up helps our partners keep tabs on all the key things that are going on in the world of education.
Our ever-popular Friday News Round – updating partners on recent developments in the education sector – started with a brief cover of key news headlines, including confirmation of removal of courses that overlap with T levels and rising student accommodation costs.
We then summarised the debates surrounding the notion of “the 50%”: the Labour policy of 50% student going into university, the PM’s criticism of the Labour plans, and the 50% of students who, today, may be left behind, struggling to access apprenticeships and other skills training.
Next, we discussed new apprenticeship-focused reports and the UCAS apprenticeship search service. We also identified the main points capturing the current state of the graduate labour market, as well as the types and the locations of graduate jobs.
Finally, we touched on the government plans to develop news skills classifications in the UK, on some suggestions on how to tweak the Lifelong Learning Entitlement, and on the UCAS consultation on application deadlines.
Feedback from attendees at our News Round events has been really positive:
“Great digest of what is happening in the world of education.” University colleague
“It allowed me to acquire lots of relevant information in a short time.” College colleague
“Very useful overview of all the latest reports and initiatives in HE.” College colleague
The next News Round will take place on December 8. You can book your place here.
