From London to Rio: learn about mega sport events at Birkbeck’s Business Week

Leaders from the worlds of sport and business will explore the legacy of London 2012 and the impact of the World Cup in Brazil during events at Birkbeck.
Economic regeneration in east London, the reform of sport governing bodies, and advice from Olympic gold medallist Adrian Moorhouse MBE will all feature during the free week of activities in Bloomsbury.
With a screening of England’s final group match on 24 June, the World Cup takes centre stage at Business Week 2014, but there are also Brazilian films, academic discussions and networking opportunities throughout from 23-26 June.
The events will showcase the latest research about the management, psychological and economic legacies of sporting events, including the impact of digital communications and the application of sporting lessons to improve your business performance.
The subjects of the main lectures, and the keynote speakers, are:

Richard Ayers, founder and CEO of Seven League, a digital media firm with a specialism in sport - What can business learn from sport?, 7:15pm, Tuesday 24 June
Adrian Moorhouse MBE, Olympic gold medallist (100m breaststroke at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul) and Managing Director and Co-founder of management consultancy Lane4 - Economic regeneration and the impact of major sporting events, 6pm, Wednesday 25 June
Neale Coleman CBE, Deputy Chair of the London Legacy Development Corporation - From club to country: a 20-year journey in football, 6:30pm, Thursday 26 June

Professor Philip Powell is Birkbeck’s Pro Vice-Master (Enterprise and Innovation) and Executive Dean of Birkbeck’s School of Business, Economics and Informatics, which organises Business Week every year.
