Goldman Sachs and Birkbeck Diversity Scholarship supports Black students in finance
Goldman Sachs and Birkbeck are offering ten £5,000 per year scholarships to eligible undergraduate students in a bid to increase diversity in finance and related fields.
Through the Goldman Sachs and Birkbeck Diversity Scholarship, ten scholarships worth £5,000 per year each are available for Black undergraduate students. Now in its second year, this scheme, which is supported by Goldman Sachs Gives , aims to foster greater diversity within the finance sector and related academic disciplines.
The scholarships are open to new full-time students enrolling in the first year of a range of BSc and LLB programs for the academic year 2024-25. These programs include disciplines such as Computing, Data Science, Economics, Business, Law, Biomedicine, and more. Detailed information on eligible programs is available on the Birkbeck website.
In addition to the financial support, scholarship recipients will have access to exclusive engagement opportunities. These include events, academic and professional development programs, mentoring from experienced professionals, and networking opportunities designed to help students succeed both academically and professionally. Cadon Davis, a BSc Business student at Birkbeck and scholarship recipient, shared his experience: "I’m transitioning from a background in mechanical engineering to business, with aspirations to ultimately work in the financial sector. The scholarship has been really helpful for my plans. My advice to anyone thinking of applying is to remember that you don’t have to have a background in finance to apply."
All recipients of the scholarship will have targeted support in the form of a dedicated Student Success Tutor, who not only oversees the delivery of the programme but also supports students’ personal, professional and academic development.
The scholarship is available to new full-time undergraduate students and those who have completed a Foundation Year at Birkbeck, who will be enrolling in one of the eligible programs for the first time in 2024-25. Applicants must qualify for Home fee status; not already hold a degree or an equivalent qualification; and be from a Black background.
The next deadline for applications is 31 August 2024. Interested students should apply for a place on their chosen course via UCAS and complete the online application form.
