Call for applications for a free 3-day training course entitled ‘Language Teaching in Higher Education’.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The Department of Applied Linguistics and Communication, Birkbeck, University of London, is pleased to announce a call for applications for a free 3-day training course entitled ‘Language Teaching in Higher Education’. The aim of the course is to provide PhD students with a practical foundation and training for foreign language teaching at university. The course will combine mini-lectures, discussions, reflection activities, microteaching practice, and presentations. Students will also be required to complete readings and other tasks.

The course is primarily aimed at PhD students in linguistics and language and education related subjects. No prior teaching experience is required.

The course will be led by Dr Tom Morton, an expert on foreign language teaching methodology and an experienced teacher trainer.

Dates and times: 10:00 - 17:00 on 30 April, 14 May and 4 June 2016.

Maximum number of participants: 20 students (if there are more applications, priority will be given to students who can take part in all three training sessions).

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

To apply you will need to complete the online application form, which asks for the following :

  • an optional short CV (including details of your PhD study, previous degrees and any teaching experience you have had),
  • a 300-word motivation statement explaining why you want to attend the course,
  • confirmation of your availability over the three training dates.

Deadline for applications: 1 March 2016

Notification of acceptance on the course: week beginning 7 March 2016.
