Birkbeck has published the newest edition of BBK, its annual alumni and supporter magazine.
To be distributed to all new graduates at their graduation ceremonies in April and to the rest of our alumni community, the magazine provides updates on university news, student successes and cutting-edge research.
With a foreword from our new president Baroness Shami Chakrabarti, the magazine also showcases our global community of change-makers and gives an insight into how Birkbeck is looking ahead in its third century.
This year’s issue includes interviews with:
- Critically-acclaimed theatre director Atri Banerjee, an MFA Theatre Directing alumnus, who shares how his work shines a light on human behaviour
- MRes Government, Policy and Politics alumna Becky Cotton, who is developing unique support for women’s health problems
- Birkbeck PhD student and disability changemaker Georgia Bondy (she/ they), who has been recognised for their innovation and influence in changing the perceptions of disability.
It also includes coverage of research by Professor Almuth McDowall on wellbeing in the workplace and Dr Alex Grzankowski speaking about how philosophy plays a crucial role in AI development. Features on university developments include our new student spaces and Birkbeck’s Immersive Learning Centre.
Atri, this year’s cover star, said: “The thing that particularly appealed to me about studying the MFA in Theatre Directing was that it was a really professional course. It included practical training and grounding in theatre directing, including a year-long placement at a working theatre somewhere in the country. I spent mine at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.”
The magazine is available to read online here.
