Linking London T Levels Week 2023
Linking London held our first T Levels Week, which took place in the week of 19 June 2023, aimed at T Level learners, their parents and carers, as well as staff in FE and HE engaged in providing information, advice and guidance, and outreach activities.
We kicked off the week with our first event aimed at students and parents, 'Going on to University with a T Level'. Suzanne Hall from Pearson firstly introduced the event and set the scene. We then had two inputs from the University of Greenwich and Kingston University who talked about the option of going to university, including an overview of their offer and entry requirements for T Level applicants, as well as some useful tips and advice around completing the UCAS application and how to choose the right course and university for you.
Our second event took place on 20 June aimed at advisors, 'Supporting T level Learners to Progress on to HE' which explored the current picture of T Levels in terms of university admissions and how we can best support learners with their next steps post-course.
After introductions and an opening welcome from our Director Andrew Jones, we then heard from Pearson who set the scene and provided a useful overview of the T Level qualification. We then had inputs from the University of Greenwich on their approach to T Levels, including how University of Greenwich support T Level students, the HE pathways available to T Level students, and outreach support for learners. We then welcomed several colleagues from Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge (HRUC) College who presented on their perspective on delivering T Levels. Tanya firstly spoke about what T Levels they deliver, what they plan to deliver in the future and T Level progression routes.
Following this, there was an opportunity to hear from a T Level learner themselves on their experiences to date, and lastly Linking London shared our latest T Level resources for learners, as well the key headlines from our mapping of HE entry requirements for 2024 entry.
The last event of the week took place on 22 June 'Alternatives to a university degree' which looked in detail at two alternative options to a university degree for T Level learners: Apprenticeships and Higher Technical Qualifications. We heard from experts from Rate My Apprenticeship and Pearson, who went through what these options are all about, why you might want to consider them, and advice on choosing and applying.
