May 2024 update from Uni Connect.

The Uni Connect team have been busy delivering their match funded and strategic strand projects. Kick Start has now launched in two colleges with academics from Kingston University visiting NCC Epping and West London College to deliver sessions on Careers in Sport and Higher Education pathways. UCFB are due to visit in June with university visits planned for July. The project will continue with the same cohort into next year for support sessions and evaluation.

Our match funded Metacognition and Reader’s Theatre projects with partners are in their final stages with students who have taken part now doing campus visits. This will be followed by evaluation and review meetings with the central team to look ahead to next year. Initial feedback has been incredibly positive.

Our Engagement Co-ordinators have been delivering support to students regarding next steps and careers pathways, both in 121 support sessions and group tutorials. Barking and Dagenham College Health and Social Care and Business students have benefitted from Information Advice and Guidance sessions, detailing various pathways into their career journey, highlighting the fundamentals, benefits, and application processes of entering higher education, apprenticeships, and employment. NCC Havering have had subject talks from various universities.

We have continued our webinar series and have delivered Choosing the Right Course and Personal Statements, with our next webinar on Supporting SEND students at University to be delivered by St Mary’s University on Wednesday 5th June. This webinar will benefit students with EHCPs and their parent/carers. To register for this, please click the link: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_-3TDnj15R96rXZr8YK4kUA

We are also in the planning stages for our webinar series going forward and are seeking feedback from college partners as to what they feel will benefit their students most.
