February 2025 update from Uni Connect.

Following the release of the OFS Theory of Change in December, we've been diving into the Access and Participation Plans (APPs) of London universities. This analysis is helping us map out all targeted outreach efforts for underrepresented groups, which will ultimately support our partners in meeting their goals. Additionally, we’re exploring apprenticeship opportunities in London, with plans to create a comprehensive resource hub for young people and careers advisors to access all available apprenticeship information.

Our strategic Kick Start Projects, focused on working-class boys in the creative and sports industries, are continuing at NCC Epping and West Thames Colleges. This term, students are participating in valuable campus visits to help them connect with their future aspirations.

We also launched a pilot project this month aimed at supporting adults returning to education. Through CPD for Camden Council staff who interact with potential adult learners, we’re upskilling them to provide better guidance on next steps, training, and education options. This initiative helps adults navigate their return to education and explore higher education opportunities, while also strengthening our partnerships with local authorities.

Our attainment-raising initiative, led by Linking London Uni Connect in partnership with Birkbeck and Ark Academy Trust, is focused on an oracy project with Year 9 students. The dates are being finalised this week, with the program set to begin in late February. School-based sessions will take place throughout March, culminating in a campus visit and celebration event at Birkbeck.

Lastly, we’ve been busy planning upcoming webinars, including one on Student Finance with SFE, and a debate-style session on "Is Going to University Really Worth It?" featuring a student panel and confirmed university partners from Greenwich, West London, SOAS, and Ravensbourne. These webinars will offer insightful perspectives on different pathways into higher education.
