MFA Theatre Directing graduates win awards

Graduates from our MFA Theatre Directing are taking the theatre world by storm!

Lyndsey Turner is the first graduate from the MFA Theatre Directing to direct in the West End. Her production of ‘Posh’ is currently on at the Duke of York’s Theatre and has transferred following its success at the Royal Court Theatre last year.

Birkbeck director Sam Brown is the first English-speaking director to win two prestigious European Opera awards, including the Ring Award, and last month his first production for English National Opera, Jakob Lenz, was produced at Hampstead Theatre.

Another Birkbeck director, Sam Pritchard, has just won the most prestigious national award for emerging directors, the JMK award, and will be directing at the Young Vic next year.

And finally, the tiny but innovative Jermyn Street Theatre, which is run by two Birkbeck graduates, Gene David Kirk and Anthony Biggs, has just added to the Peter Brook Award for most enterprising fringe theatre for 2011 with The Stage newspaper’s award for the Best Fringe Theatre in 2012.
