Laura Jacobus, Senior Lecturer in History of Art, has contributed to the National Gallery’s October podcast, where she describes one of her best loved pieces in the gallery.

Dr Jacobus used to give guided tours of the National Gallery and here she goes back to talk to writer and radio producer Cathy Fitzgerald about one her favourite pictures – The Virgin and Child with Saints by the 15th century Italian artist, Pisanello. She points out a detail easily missed by the casual observer and explains why Pisanello was so celebrated in his own lifetime. You might want to look at the picture on the National Gallery website here while listening to the podcast – or pop over to Trafalgar Square to see it in person.

You can listen to the full 15-minute podcast here.

Laura teaches on our BA History of Art and MA History of Art programmes, as well as supervising research students.
