New Birkbeck faculties and schools launched

Revised structure to benefit teaching and research.

Birkbeck has reorganised into three new faculties and eight schools, as part of its plans to continue to improve the support it provides its students and maintain its academic breadth as it approaches its 200th anniversary later this year.

The College has brought together its former departments into larger schools and faculties which will work well together, benefitting both teaching and research as the new structure takes effect.

Work to plan for the move to the structure began earlier this year, following a series of consultations and approval of it by the College’s Governors.

Whilst the new faculties and schools have been formally launched, work is underway during August to reflect these changes on the website.

Professor David Latchman, Vice-Chancellor said: “We are at an important and exciting point in Birkbeck’s history and continued development as a world class higher education institution that offers a broad curriculum of flexible, research-led education.

“Both those students looking to join us in October and our current ones, who are returning to study with us, will find the names of our departments have changed but they will continue to benefit from the same extensive range of courses and programmes, and high-quality teaching and support services.

“We look forward to welcoming new and returning students next term.”
