New courses for 2011-12 and beyond

The Department of Psychosocial Studies is proud to offer two new postgraduate courses, beginning in 2011-12:

  • 2011 saw the opening of the MA Psychoanalysis, History and Culture, jointly taught with Birkbeck’s internationally famous Department of History, Classics and Archaeology. The MA is an intellectually rigorous course that will introduce you to the history and development of psychoanalysis in the past 100 years, and explore and critically assess applications of psychoanalysis to the understanding of culture and history. A special feature is an option taught at the Institute of Psychoanalysis. For more information, read our programme handbook and look at literature about the programme. This is a sister-programme to our prestigious MA Psychosocial Studies
  • We have recently redesigned MA in Culture, Diaspora and Ethnicity which is now open to full-time students.
  • The new Postgraduate Certificate in Group Analytic Studies is the second year of the four-year psychotherapy training in group analysis and also stands alone as a more advanced introduction to applied group analytic theory and practice. It is taught by practising group analysts at the Institute of Group Analysis as well as by academic staff from the Department of Psychosocial Studies.
  • A new Graduate Certificate in Psychosocial Studies will open in 2012. This programme introduces you to substantial strands of psychosocial theory – theory that proposes different ways of understanding the interrelationship between the development of subjectivity and identity, and historical and contemporary social and political formations. The focus is on psychoanalysis and social theory. The programme will prepare you for Masters level study if you do not meet the entry requirements for one of our academic Masters courses.
